Chillin’ with Adam with Alison Ailfinn Allan & Special Guest: Florence Nightingale with Special Appearances by Cin’s Stomach, Brain, & Kidneys and Adam’s Donated Organs
Florence Nightingale’s father, William Edward Nightingale, a wealthy land owner, taught Florence and her sister that the wealthy are obligated to help the less fortunate. An animal lover and caretaker by nature, Florence dedicated her life to the service of others. They say if you don’t believe one person can make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito in a tent. Doctors who got in Florence’s way, got the mosquito treatment. Her “Can-Do” attitude and stubborn streak ultimately reduced the death rate of wounded soldiers by two-thirds.
When asked about her greatest challenge as Manager of Nurses at a hospital during the Crimean War, Florence replied, “Men of the medical kind.” She described doctors returning from the latrine, hands crawling with bacteria, going from one patient to the other, spreading infection and disease. When asked how she persuaded the nurses to implement hand-washing, she replied, “If I couldn’t reason with them, I nagged them.”
We hope you enjoy our visit with Florence Nightingale and a very special guest appearance by my stomach, kidneys, and brain; and the organs Adam donated. What a remarkable episode!
