Chillin’ with Adam “Little House” Holiday Special with Laura Ingalls Wilder & Rose Wilder Lane
Adam said, “Laura Ingalls Wilder had a lot of stamina and a lot of willpower to make something out of life and to continuously see beauty in what was around her. I think if we all would live life that way and see the beauty that’s there, we would be a lot stronger and live a lot happier lives as well. She’s incredible!”
Laura said writing the “Little House” books was not her idea, it was her daughter’s. According to Rose Wilder Lane, the idea originated from her desire to create something she could put all of her energy into. Rose said she let her mother take authorship, “Because there was no competition between us. These were my mom’s stories, so she deserved the credit for what she’d been through.”
When asked what she’d like to share with us, Laura said, “I could tell you a story of a little girl who was moved from place to place to place. We traveled a lot. They were always very difficult journeys. There was a considerable amount of danger.
You have to understand that in my day, the way that people saw life was different. We really focused more on surviving than we did on contemplating life. See, now people are so deep and they’re trying to understand life and they don’t even see what they have. They don’t see what’s right there and they don’t appreciate it. They think they have nothing, but they have everything.
Where I come from it was about pure survival and going with the flow. Everything was in the now. It was about today. One day at a time we made the best of that day. We didn’t have the luxury to wonder and ponder and complain about stuff we don’t have.
I always saw beauty in things that were aorund me. In the flowers, in the grass, in the little animals that were there. There’s always beauty to be found and I think nowadays, people need to learn to stop and look because there’s beauty everywhere around you.
We’re so focused now on having “stuff,” and being “famous” and “proving yourself.”
“Look at ME! I can do more than YOU! I’m better at this and I’m better at that!”
There is so much focus on overpowering everyone else. We always want to be bigger than the other person. We’re too competitive with one another. Be grateful and appreciative for what is already there. If you can find appreciation and gratitude for what God has already provided for you, then all that you desire will be attracted to you. You will be in a constant state of abundance. Look around, people, you’ve got so much. Be grateful for what you have.”
“Believe in yourself and know that you can overcome anything.” — Rose Wilder Lane
